Whilst preparing for an interview, take some time to go through these lists of aims, so that you are completely clear about what the interviewer expects from you, and what you should hope to achieve.

The Aims of the Interviewer

  • Find the most suitable person for the job.
  • Encourage the candidate to express themselves fully.
  • Discover whether the candidate has specific skills, qualifications and achievements.
  • To assess whether the candidate will fit into the company, professionally and socially.
  • To promote the job and organisation.

The Aims of the Candidate

  • Clearly express their talents and expertise.
  • Present themselves in the best possible light.
  • Create a positive impression.
  • Find out more about the job and organisation and decide whether or not it is a 'good fit'.
  • Meet future managers and colleagues.
  • Succeed in gaining a job offer or further interview.
